Thiruppaavai is a set of 30 songs sung in the Tamil month of Margazhi(Dec-Jan), in the praise of Lord Krishna. There is a belief that Aandal, also known as Soodi koduttha sudarkodi, collected her friends everyday in the early morning to sing a song in the praise of Lord Krishna and follow a vradham. It is said that she finally married Lord Krishna and went to heaven.

Every year these songs are sung in the month of Margazhi but were sung only by a few musicians in the carnatic music stage.  Nalayira Divya Prabandham contains 4000 songs on Lord Vishnu. These are considered to be the pet songs for Vaishnav Brahmins. They are still singing in temples with their melting in the tunes.
