There is a story behind this book

When this book was published by my father, he didn't have any idea of marketing it. It so happened that, my mother wanted to help her friends to sing some devotional songs at a nearby temple(Selva Vinayagar temple, Thambu chetty street, Mannadi, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India).

My father, a professional publisher printed recompiled the book, organized it properly by indexing the contents and made it professionally looking good. The cost of the book(at that time) was Rs. 4.50 only. He added 50 paise as handling charges, priced the book as Rs 5.00 and released it in the market. He sent free copies to many persons and institutions without remembering the names, as he thought he was doing a service and not a business.

Though he never had an intention of making any profit on this book, the book sold out quickly and book sellers insisted him to reprint the same. He continued the service for several editions maintaining the price at the same level.

One day, a person came to our office and asked us a book published by us(without naming it) saying it was recommended by sri sri Chandrasekara swamigal(Kanchi maha periyavar).  We made it clear to him that we don't have any book recommended by any hindu religious body for tha matter, let alone the Kanchi mut.

He asked us to show our books and he will show the title he wanted to buy. We took him to a small show case and he picked up the above book from the stand.

Later we found the story behind it.  Someone threw us a few details on it. We still don't know whether it is a rumor or it really happened. Anway, it only adds a feather to the 'Periyavar' and we left it at that level.

The story went like this...

It seems that someone who came for the blessings of Sri Sri Sankaraacharya Swamigal(Sri Chandrasekara saraswathi alias maha periyava). He prayed him to bless his daughter to get married as she was getting older and he could not find a suitable boy for her.

Swamigal seems to have advised the girl to go and worship Ambal at a nearby temple every Friday for 5 weeks and donate something to poor at the end of it.

The father has said that, he himself was a poor person and how he could give any gift to others.

Swamigal responded with a smile, "It is not necessary that you should give only costly gifts. If it is affordable you can give saries. If not you can give a blouse bit or even a book like this(showing our book to him). This book costs only Rs. 5.00. You can buy ten copies of the books and give it to 10 persons. This will spread 'bhakthi dharma' and will also bring blessings of those who got this book to your child"

This seems to have impressed the father and he was pleased with this advice.

Later, it seems that the girl got married and that person came back to the mut to get the blessings again from the swamigal with the newly wedded couple. The people standing behind him in the Que seemed to have taken a note of it. As this looked to be an easy way of implementing, it seems, more people started buying our this book saying 'it was recommended by the mut'.

Whether this is an incident or rumour we found the book started circulating fast among the Sri Durga devotees.

About the success of this book my father had only one thing to say, "If you do anything without expecting a return the success will naturally follow"

Had he not said it right?
