Meaning of conducting Sastiyaptha poorthi(Arupatham Kalyanam)

It is said in custom that a person's life divided by set of 12 years each. The first twelve years is called 'Baalyam' that is 'childhood'. He will enjoy the childhood moving around happily without bothering the reactions. People around him will never mind the mistakes done by him saying, "He is still a child".

The next period that is, between the age of 12-24 is called 'Yawwanam' that is 'youth'. At this age, he enters the first stage of youth and finds changes in his body. He is attracted towards the other sex. He controls his emotions and tries to concentrate on learning from his Guru(Teacher). His teacher holds his hand to make his the brightest student of his school.

At the age of 24, he has two ways to decide with. One is called 'Sanyas' and another is known as 'Grahastham'.

Sanyas :
In Sanscrit the word 'nyas' means 'Route' or 'path' and word 'San' means 'good'. So, the word 'Sanyas' means 'Good way'. If he opts for this, his guru will give him 'Deeksha' by telling him the moola manthra in his ear. He will conduct 'pithru karma' assuming that his parents have died(even if they are alive) and wash away his family. From then on the whole world becomes his family and he will go to the forest or go on visiting the temples and concentrate on 'dyana' and 'japa'.

Grahastham:
It is not necessary that everybody should choose the path of 'Sanyas' merely because it means 'good way'. They have a responsibility of growing the world by giving birth of children by marrying suitable girl and service the society. This is called 'Grahastham' and he chooses a girl, marries, gets children through her and bring them up for another 24 years.

If everything is right and he gets a boy the very next year of his marriage, his son will be at the age of 24 when he is 48(24+12+12). Now his son will decide whether he choolses 'Sanyas' or 'Grahastham' and can stand by himself. Now, the duty of bringing his child is over by now for him. So, at this stage both he and his wife will wish to go out in the world to realize the purpose of their birth. They either will go together or will go separately  with an agreement that, they will again meet after 12 years. That will be at the age of 60 for him. They will go on theertha yathra, visit temples or do social works in different places or do anything which they want to do.

Now, when they come together and meet each other, they would have been new persons. They would have learned a lot from the world. They begin to start their life again. This is a new batch of life for them. So they again get married and this is called 'Mangalya dharanam' on 'Sastiyaptha poorthi' or 'Arupatham kalyanam(60th marriage)'.

This book contains complete mantras to conduct these functions, at the age of 60(Sashtiyaptha poorthi', 70(Beemaratha Santhi) and 80(Sadhabishekam). These functions are conducted by children as a 'give back' to their parents. Today's youth are eagerly following this tradition and we are happy about it.
